Family Support Team
Our Family Support Team comprises of ten Family Support Workers , three of which are bi-lingual, one who supports traveller families, a dedicated father’s worker and the Family Support Team Leader.
The team work in partnership with parents to support them in their role as their children’s first educators. They carry out introductory home visits to register families, provide information about services available through Sure Start and signpost to other services available to parents and young children in the Dungannon & Coalisland areas. Family Support Workers also provide on-going support for families through a series of planned home visits focused on a particular need of either the parent or the children. This home based support which is tailored to meet these individual needs of families is available in the ante-natal, the post natal period and right up until the child reaches their fourth birthday. The nature of these visits can range from breastfeeding support, home baby massage, support and signposting for with financial or housing issues, parenting support, age appropriate play. The Family Support Team also work closely with other Health professionals on the team and refer children to these professionals and core services at parent’s request.
The Family Support Team also lead a variety of group activities which offer parents and children an opportunity to develop their skills for future learning and developing through play and socialisation. The activities we promote in our groups aim to fulfil the natural curiosity of young children whilst offering parents ideas for quality play experiences which will benefit their children’s development and can be easily repeated and developed in the home. We also run a number of groups for to offer parents opportunities to complete parenting courses and training and education courses.
